EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN (CONT)
steeper than 20% . No permanent highwalls will be created. No
slopes steeper than 2 : 1 will be created when reclaimed. The
completed pit will be graded so it drains to the northwest at a
grade of least 2%. The existing 4 x 4 road to Colorado Division
of Parks and Wildlife (CPW) lands on the south has been closed at
the mines gate and has been abandoned by CPW.
Topsoil will be stripped to a depth of at least 12 inches and
will be stockpiled around the north and west perimeter of the
pit . A two (2) acre area, north of the existing working face
will be stripped in the new area. This will provide enough
mining area to last for two seasons material needs . At this time
there is approximately 14 , 000 cu-yds of topsoil alined as a sight
berm along the south side of the west permit line and the north
line of the existing permit area. The northern stockpiles will
be moved to the west side of the new area once mining starts on
the new area. Topsoil has been seeded with the native grass
species required by BLM to help preserve the soil viability and
to protect it from wind and water erosion, grass, shrubs and
small trees will be stripped and incorporated into the topsoil
piles or will be stockpiled separately for later use as a mulch.
The pit area receives approximately 11-14" of precipitation per
year. Surface water is generally not present in the permit area.
The mining operation will not intersect any sources of
groundwater. During operations the pit will be bermed with
material piles or topsoil piles to contain any overland flow from
storm events .
The mine life is approximately ten 10 years. No mining will
occur from November 1 to April 30 to avoid conflict with wildlife
on their wintering areas . Due to the small staging area and pit
area there will be limited sequential reclamation during
operations . As mining progresses to the north the staging area
will also shift toward the north. Reclamation work will continue
on the southern end of the project area and will progress toward
the north as mining progresses and as space allows .
Equipment to be used at the mine may include but is not limited
to dozers, loaders, scrapers, power shovels, haul trucks, a
processing plant, made up of crushers, screens and generator
plants . No blasting will be done at the mine .
Mining on the new area will begin on the north end of the
existing floor area and progress into the deposit using the
loaders and dozers to push material down the slope to the
existing floor, where it will be loaded into the crusher by the
front end loaders . Crushed material will be stockpiled south of
the working area.
A steel gate with warning signs has been placed at the entrance
to the pit to restrict access by unauthorized personnel . The pit
will be patrolled on a regular basis to inspect for damage and to
5
