May 22, 2018 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine CCW
- The B -Seam Dewatering System #1 was impounding water. Water had reached the last cell in the system. There
was no discharge out of the primary spillway. The outlet was clear of debris and capable of functioning as
designed. The embankments of the cells were stable and well vegetated. There were no erosional concerns.
- The RP- 1 Pond was dry (Photo 2). The outlet to the pond was clear and functional. The embankment was well
vegetated and stable. There were no erosional features at the pond.
-The RP -2/3 Pond consists of three cells: a west cell, an east cell and amain cell. During the inspection, only the
east cell was holding a small amount of water. There was no discharge from the east cell to the main cell. The
outlets for all of the cells were clear of debris and capable of functioning as designed. The embankments of the
three cells were well vegetated and stable. There were no erosional issues.
-The RP -4 pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The outlet was clear and functional. The embankments
were stable with no indications of erosion. Vegetation on the embankments was well established.
- - The RP -5a Pond was dry during the inspection. The outlet was clear of debris and functional. The
embankments were well vegetated and stable. The embankments had no indications of erosion.
- There are three ponds located in the main facilities area: the DP -1 Pond (Photo 3), the PP -1 Pond and the PP -2
Pond. The DP -1 pond collects all of the surface runoff from the facilities area. The pond was impounding water.
There was no discharge from the pond at the time of the inspection. The outlet was clear and capable of
functioning. The embankment was stable and well vegetated. There were no erosional issues. The PP -1 and PP -2
Ponds are associated with the processing plant. Both Ponds were holding water at the time of the inspection.
Discharge was not occurring from either pond. The embankments were stable and there were no erosional
features. The vegetation on the embankments was well established.
- The SDH -3/5 Dewatering System (Photo 4) was running during the inspection. Water from the pump was being
impounded in the last cell of the system. The water had reached the primary discharge outlet and was discharging
to Red Wash. The embankment was stable and there were no erosional issues. The vegetation on the
embankments was establishing well.
- The Raw water lagoon was storing water during the inspection. The embankments were well vegetated and
stable. There were no indications of erosion.
Ditches around the facilities area were mostly dry at the time of the inspection. No down cutting was observed.
The ditches were in good condition and capable of functioning as designed. During the spring time the Division
recommends that ditches be cleaned as necessary to ensure that water reports to the correct sediment control
features. Please continue to clean the facilities ditches as needed.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 6
