The Surface Facilities
The surface facilitites consist of the following items
Antique School Bus
This 9150's vitage school bus was at the mine site before the current permit was granted
in 1982. The school bus is currently used as a lunch room, office, and a shelter from the
weather. It is approximately 8 feet wide and 23 feet in length and it is portable.
Metal Storage Shed
This metal shed is used to repair small equipment and as storage for a limited quantity of
mine supplies. Small amounts of lubricants are stored in this shed. This shed has
measurements of 8 feet by 10 feet. The shed has a foundation of wood timbers.
Generator
A small 15 KW generator is located next to the shed. This generator is propane powered
and in new condition. It is used to provide electricity to the shed and to power the mines
ventilation system.
Air Compressor
A 185 cubic foot per minute portable air compressor is located next to the generator. It is
removed from the site during the winters for maintenance.
Blower type Mine Fan
Approximately 15 feet from the portal, is a Centrifugal type fan that provides ventilation to
the mine. Air is pushed into the mine from the fan via an 8 in thin walled steel ventilation
pipe. The fan is placed upon a 3 by 3 by 1 -foot concrete foundation.
Rai!
Between the portal and the edge of the waste rock pile is a set of rails to allow small rail
type haulage equipment to be used in the underground portion of the mine. This path of
rail utilizes 16 pound per yard steel rail with a gage of 18 inches. The rail is laid on 4 by 4
inch wood ties that are placed at 2 foot intervals along the rail path. The surface portion of
the rail path is 84 feet in length.
Explosive Storage
All explosives are stored in underground day type magazines. Only enough explosives
are brought to the mine for one day's activities.
Fuel and Lubrication Storage
No large quantity fuel storage is utilized at the Poorman mine. Small appropriately sealed
containers of motor oil and diesel fuel are stored at mine site in a spill contained
flammables cabinet. This cabinet is removed from the site during the winter season when
no work is being completed. Any oil or fuel spills are cleaned up immediately and
contaminated soil taken off site to an apocopate disposal facility.
4
