2. Educational/Interpretive Services Describe any educational and/or interpretive services
provided:
What we intend to offer really is more of an educational class than a guided hike. We wish to
provide classes to teach the beginner prospector and geology enthusiast, who may be
interested in prospecting for themselves on public lands in Colorado or the western United
States. We are aware of certain factors causing what may be an unusually large number of
inexperienced and unknowledgeable enthusiasts to sometimes prospect improperly on public
land. We plan to teach short, but information and experience packed classes to teach how to
prospect on public lands in the western United States, legally, safely, and properly. We give
students a "crash course" in how to begin to learn the laws and regulations which cover mining
and prospecting, how to conduct research to determine if it is acceptable to dig in any given
area. We also teach how to research the regulations concerning proper public land use in
different areas, to encourage students to follow all land use laws and regulations. If our
application is accepted, we may develop printed materials to hand out to students. We have
discussed such possibilities with Amy Titterington, Head Geologist for the South Platte Ranger
District. The principle of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics is a significant part of our curriculum,
and examples of how to follow the principles are illustrated throughout the class. Of course part
of the class will teach the practical side of prospecting, and how to be successful at it. Therefore
the class site is intended to be our"Devil May Care" Lode Mining claim, in Douglas County,
located near the Topaz Point area off Rampart Range Road, in the Pike National Forest. The
students will be guests of Lost Creek Mining, LLC on our claim, which we provide as an
acceptable area to dig and teach our students in the field. The only hiking involved is to and
from the claim site, approximately one mile in each direction, down and then back up a steep
slope. There will be one or two day classes offered. For students taking two day classes, any
overnight camping on national forest land, or lodging nearby will be the responsibility of each
classmate, and at their sole discretion. If students plan to camp, Lost Creek Mining, LLC makes
it clear that we are only responsible for students during the class and during the trip to and from
the class site. We will, however provide any assistance as needed, and advise students on
camping regulations.
3. What Services does your company offer that are unique for clients/visitors on public lands?
We feel that the service of"Lost Creek Mining Educational Digging Adventures" is quite unique.
In fact, we are not aware of any other individuals or companies that do anything similar. While
people can pay to dig at different mines in different places in the United States, we differentiate
ourselves as not offering pay to dig services, but an educational class designed so that the
student will get a good start on educating themselves, on how to be a good prospector, and a
good steward of the land. Many people are enthusiastic about rocks, minerals, geology, and the
outdoors, but they lack knowledge of how to be a good prospector. We teach that a good
prospector is a good steward of the land, and the basic principles of how one goes about
becoming one for him or herself. Students with a casual interest will leave with new respect for
and knowledge of the land. Those more likely to continue prospecting on their own, or those
