alluvial aquifer thus far, indicate a sodium system, as would be expected. No <br />significantly adverse effects on ground water resources are anticipated from the <br />proposed underground mining activities. <br />A monitoring program is in place to monitor the effects of operations at the Munger <br />Canyon Mine and the McClane Canyon Mine, which is located further up the East Salt <br />Creek drainage. <br />The permit application contains East Salt Creek alluvium baseline ground water <br />monitoring data for three calendar quarters of 1981. In order to accurately determine <br />seasonal fluctuations and describe the essential hydrologic functions of the East Salt <br />Creek AVF, the Division required a continuous record of alluvial ground water levels <br />and water quality data. <br />Narrow bands of alluvial -colluvial material extend about one mile up Munger Canyon <br />from the confluence with East Salt Creek. Monitoring well GW -4, which is 40 feet <br />deep and is located at the lower part of Munger Canyon, was dry in April 1981 during <br />the period of the year of snowmelt and highest precipitation. Test pits TP -1, TP -2 and <br />TP -3, dug to a depth of ten feet in the Munger Creek alluvium, had no traces of mottling <br />and only a very slight increase in moisture. Additionally, plant species present on the <br />alluvium indicate the absence of natural subirrigation in the Munger Creek alluvium. <br />No wells or springs have been identified within three miles of the mine. Thus, the <br />Munger Canyon mining operation will not affect the quantity or quality of any ground <br />water that is put to beneficial use off site. <br />The operator has committed to the following ground water monitoring program: <br />1. Quarterly monitoring of wells GW -1, and GW -3, for Static Water Level, pH, <br />Temperature, and Specific Conductance. <br />2. Water quality sampling of mine water discharges as required by CDPS permit. <br />Due to the sealed and reclaimed status of the Munger Canyon Mine, and <br />historical absence of mine inflow/discharge, discharges are not anticipated. <br />3. Monitoring all of non -seep inflows into mine to include source, quantity, <br />duration and quality (pH, Temperature, and Electrical Conductance). Due to <br />the sealed and reclaimed status of the Munger Canyon Mine, such monitoring is <br />not practicable, and is no longer required. <br />4. Monitor quantities of water discharged from the mine, consumed in the mine <br />and imported for use in the mine. Due to the sealed and reclaimed status of the <br />Munger Canyon Mine, there is currently no discharge from the mine, <br />consumption in the mine, or importation for use in the mine. <br />5. Results of the quarterly groundwater monitoring shall be submitted to the <br />19 <br />
