—62 feet completed, static water depth 51 feet—5750 feet in elevation, constructed 2004 for
monitoring and sampling (shale at 54 feet); and 254683 —60 feet completed, no water was
encountered during well construction, current surface elevation—5750 feet, constructed 2004 for
monitoring and sampling (shale not encountered).
The maximum mining depth is to 5670 feet in elevation. Based on landowner experience, the
water source for the above mentioned wells does infiltrate to the site. The three wells above
show shallow water depths, however, this phenomenon is likely from infiltration from irrigation
wells because the alluvial aquifer of the Uncompahgre River is significantly below the levels of
these wells. Dates?
A CDPHE discharge permit is in place for the operation.
2. Groundwater
The site will mine sand and gravel deposit in the high alluvial terrace to the west of the
Uncompahgre River. The Uncompahgre River and floodplain are >150 feet lower in elevation
than the unmined surface of the Base Products Gravel Pit#1. It is not expected that groundwater
will be encountered during any phase of mining.
3. Water Consumption for the Operation and Water Rights
Because groundwater is unlikely to be encountered during any phase of mining at the Base
Products Gravel Pit#1, no Substitute Water Supply Plan(SWSP) is in place or required for
Montrose County. Because the alluvial gravel to be mind is dry, no water losses will occur from
the gravel resource during mining.
Any water required for dust mitigation and the washing or crushing of gravel will be purchased
and brought on site by an independent operator. Depletions for gravel washing operations have
been calculated to be 500 gallons per day based upon previous experience. It is expected that the
gravel washing operations will be in operations a maximum of 52 weeks per year and 5 days per
week. This would result in a consumption of 0.34 acre-feet per month with a total of 4.08 acre-
feet per year.
Base Products Gravel Pit 41
February 2018 G-2
