The successful involved using initial estimates for hydraulic conductivities
of various coal and non -coal layers that were based on direct computations performed by WMC
based on their field investigations and observations. AAI performed spot checks on numerous
WMC well -test calculations and found the computed conductivity values to be reasonable and
representative of the ground response to the field tests. Hence, these values formed the initial
values for AAI's calibration analysis. AAI performed numerous calibration iterations, adjusting
the hydraulic conductivities and storage coefficients of multiple coal and non -coal layers
simultaneously to find the best fit between modeled and observed draw-down/rebound responses.
A summary of the calibrated hydraulic conductivities and storage coefficients by layer is
presented in Table 3. Note that the Km bed and its underlying layer were excluded from the
calibration process because they were unlikely to be consequential to the dewatering process.
These calibrated parameters formed the core of AAI's interpretations of the dynamic ground
response to a pumping effort and were used in the predictive analyses that followed. The
hydraulic parameters were assumed to be constant throughout the modeled area. A summary of
the measured hydraulic conductivities reported in WMC's 2005 study is presented in the
Appendix.
Table 3.
