Species selection criteria centered on species that are drought tolerant, reasonably productive under semiarid conditions, able to provide site stabilization, able to withstand grazing pressure and have utility for livestock and wildlife. These species are commonly used in this region and this seed mixture was reviewed and approved by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (MRCS) and has been used at the NI -12 Mine for many years. All species are introduced; however, these are the best available species for the postmining land use and are necessary and desirable to achieve the intended use. Forage Kochia will only be applied through broadcast seeding therefore, its application rate is double that shown above. 3.4 Pasture Management Dryland Pasture is managed to a lower management level than reclaimed Irrigated Pasture/Cropland areas. Irrigation water is not applied to the dryland areas after seeding. Management and maintenance activities will include any necessary repair of rills or gullies (Section 9.0) and interseeding if necessary. As documented in Attachment 2.05.4(2)(e)-2, interseeding of Dryland Pasture is a normal husbandry practice; therefore, it will be practiced on these lands within the Dryland Pasture areas. 3.5 Fertilization Plan Fertilization will not occur on Dryland Pasture areas. 3.6 Grazing Plan No livestock grazing will be allowed on any Dryland Pasture areas.
