Transit Mix Concrete Co.
Additional riparian shrubs will be planted for a greater diversity of species, and the species
selected are recommended by the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County Stream Design
Guidelines (City of Colorado Springs, 2009). The design guidelines recommend additional
species; however, only those available from nearby nurseries or the Colorado State Forest
Service were included in the list below. The "Wet" riparian planting mix will be used for the Little
Turkey Creek crossing and other areas with sufficient water, but there may not be sufficient water
available to sustain these species in the drainages across the Quarry area and adjacent to the F1
stockpile. The hydrologic conditions in these areas will be evaluated following construction and
seeding, and these areas will be planted primarily with aspen trees using the "Dry" riparian
planting mix.
Riparian species will be planted at 350 stems/acre. There will be roughly equal number of tree
species and shrub species planted as shown in Table E-5
Table E-5 Riparian Planting Rate
Wet Riparian Planting Mix Dry Riparian Planting Mix
Narrowleaf cottonwood (35 stem/ac) Aspen (175 stem/ac)
Boxelder (35 stem/ac) Wood's rose (35 stem/ac)
Bluestem willow (35 stem/ac) Serviceberry (35 stem/ac)
Redosier dogwood (35 stem/ac) Golden currant (35 stem/ac)
Mountain birch (35 stem/ac) Buffaloberry (35 stem/ac)
Wood's rose (25 stem/ac) Mountain snowberry (35 stem/ac)
Serviceberry (25 stem/ac)
Indigo bush (25 stem/ac)
Hackberry (25 stem/ac)
Golden currant (25 stem/ac)
Buffaloberry (25 stem/ac)
Mountain snowberry (25 stem/ac)
Native species grown from seed collected near the site or along Colorado's Front Range will be
used to the extent possible. Local seed and bareroot tree providers were contacted in order to
obtain cost estimates for reclamation (included in Exhibit L) as well as to provide the estimated
availability of viable seeds and trees in sufficient quantities as per Rule 6.4.5(2)(d). Sharp Brothers
Seed Company (recommended by the NRCS) was contacted and confirmed that the proposed
seed mixes in Tables E-6 and E-7 are available. Also, CFS was contacted who confirmed that
the mixed conifer, mountain shrubland, and riparian species are available.
Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry Permit Application
March 20,2018 E-11
