o Transit Mix Concrete Co.
northern edge of the Quarry and then south along the western edge of the Quarry. The southern
portion of the Quarry will be mined from west to east; this progression leaves existing ridges in
front of the mining to limit Quarry visibility. The eastern most ridge, although it contains good
quality stone, will not be mined for this reason. The proposed final reclamation topography is
shown in Figures C-9, F-1, and F-2.
(a) Description of methods of mining to be employed in each stage of the operation as related to
any surface disturbance on affected lands.
Mining Methods
Transit Mix proposes traditional quarrying techniques to complete the Plan. Drilling and blasting,
dozer push, and load and haul mining methods will be used during mining operations.
Prior to commencing mining, the initial area to be affected (including access roads, plant site, and
stockpile areas) will be cleared and grubbed, and topsoil will be salvaged and stockpiled.
Additionally, the mining crest limits and affected lands boundary will be GPS surveyed and staked
to delineate mining activity and total disturbance areas to mitigate the potential for off-site impacts.
All grading shall be done to control erosion and siltation of the affected lands and to protect areas
outside the affected land from slides and other damages. If not eliminated, all highwalls shall be
stable; refer to Exhibit 6.6. Additionally, all drainage from the site will have sediment removed
by sediment detention basins prior to release to nearby waters, mining activities will stay at least
10 feet above the elevation of Little Turkey Creek, and a 100-foot buffer from the centerline of
Little Turkey Creek will be maintained to prevent any disturbance near the creek. As mining
progresses, the affected area will be incrementally expanded to encompass the growing Quarry
area. Overburden materials and granite will be excavated; initial overburden material and fines
(from mining and plant losses) will be stored adjacent to the pit in stockpile F1 as shown on
Figure C-1. The general mining sequence will consist of the following unit operations:
• Land clearing (where required)
• Topsoil removal and stockpiling
• Removal of unconsolidated overburden (when required)
• Overburden drilling and blasting (when required)
• Overburden removal, loading and hauling
• Granite/diabase drilling and blasting
• Granite/diabase loading, hauling, crushing and screening
• Backfilling of mining areas (where practical)
• Final grading of surface, endwalls and highwalls of mining pits
Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry Permit Application
March 20, 2018 D-3
