Morton Lakes DRM&S Permit # M-2008-082 TR-005
Overview of Morton Lakes Technical Revision (TR-005)
On March 6, 2017 the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining &
Safety (Division) approved Ready Mixed Concrete Company's (RMCC)
112c mining and reclamation permit amendment for the Morton Lakes Pit
(DRM&S Permit # M-2008-082). The purpose of this Technical Revision
(TR-005) requests a minor revision to mining Stage 6 (B) of the amended
Morton Lakes Mining Stages.
RMCC recently completed mining Stage 6 (B), located adjacent to and
immediately north of Stage 6 (A), south of Colorado Highway 52. Under the
current mining plan for Stage 6 (B), RMCC proposed to temporarily
stockpile sand and gravel on the pit floor prior to reclaiming this stage for
developed water storage. RMCC is now seeking DRMS approval for TR-
005 by which the company will install an earthen berm between Stages 6 (A)
and 6 (B) in order to convert Stage 6 (B) into a temporary (5 Acre)
groundwater recharge pond to address the water levels in the A&W well (see
revised Exhibit "D" enclosed).
The earthen berm will have a 25 foot top width, a depth of 25 feet with
3:1 side slopes. It will be constructed using onsite stockpiled over burden.
Upon completion of all mining activities in stage 6 the berm will be removed
and used for final reclamation.
The current DRMS approved reclamation plan for stages 6 (A&B) will
remain unchanged, namely developed water storage.
March 15, 2018 1
