Ms. Robin Reilley, DRMS
Re: PR -09 Permit Revision
Page 2
The Following Enclosed Permit Maps are Modified
M-4 (1 sheet), M-6 (3 sheets), M9 (sheets 2 and 3), M-l0A (3 sheets), M-1OB (3 sheets), M-12 Q sheets),
M -13A (3 sheets), M13B (1 sheet), M13C (1 sheet), M-14 (1 sheet), M -14A (2 sheets), M-31(1 sheet), M -
47A (sheet 2), M-51 (3 sheets).
Included with this permit revision is a proposal to modify the Phase III bond release shrub density standard.
This proposal was necessitated by several related issues. First, some existing shrub clumps were essentially
wiped out by contract weed sprayers focused too much on whitetop elimination at the expense of existing
live shrubs. Second, as pit progression moves further east it is becoming increasingly difficult to access live
shrub pads for shrub clump construction. Finally, we believe we can meet a higher shrub density standard
(proposal to meet 700 stems/acre rather than 400 stems/acre if shrub clumps are not included) based on
some of our recent innovations such as aerial interseeding of small -seeded shrub species.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns with the initial review of this document. We stand
ready to work with you on this project in a diligent and timely manner.
Sincerely,
Forrest Luke
Environmental Manager
FVL
[PR09cl.doc]
End
c Jennifer Maiolo, BLM, w/enc
File 109.2.3.4, w/o enc
