o' a Transit Mix Concrete Co.
444 E.Costilla Street,Colorado Springs,CO 80903 Office: (719)475-0700 Fax: (719)475-0226
■ Nonelectric Surface Delay—NONEL—Same as above except a
low output detonator for reduced noise. Used on surface to
connect together and provide delay time between Nonelectric
MS Detonators. (Detonator assemblies, nonelectric, 1.1 B, UN
0360 PG II or Detonator assemblies, nonelectric, 1.4B, UN
0361 PG II)
■ Detonating Cord - A flexible cord containing a center core of
high explosives which may be used to initiate other high
explosives. (Cord, Detonating, 1.1D, UN 0065, II EX
1992020035)
o Any other products deemed necessary by the blasting sub-contractor
Storage of Explosives
At no time will explosives be stored onsite at Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry. Majority of
blasting at Hitch Rack Ranch will be done using bulk explosives. All bulk explosive
ingredients and explosive accessories will be brought to the site the day of the blast by
the third party blasting contractor. Any unused quantities of bulk explosive ingredients
and explosive accessories will be taken off site at the end of the blast by the same
contractor that brought it to site. When bulk explosives are to be used, quantity of
explosives on site is minimized. Bulk delivery equipment used by third party contractor
carries bulk non explosive ingredients (Oxidizer and fuel) and mixes the non-explosive
ingredients as they are loaded(pumped or augered) into the drill hole to make Blasting
Agent. All bulk explosives are in placed in blastholes. Cast boosters and detonators are
the only explosives handled on bench at site (max 120#total). There will be no unused
bulk explosives to be transported off site. Where package explosives (Type E I.1D or
1.5D) may be required (e.g., for presplit or development work), these will be transported
to site by US DOT/MSHA approved truck and explosives not used in daily operations
will be returned to third parry blasting contractor's storage location. While on site, all
explosives will be closely monitored and supervised by qualified personnel.
Dates and Times of Blasting
After a pattern is drilled the quarry manager will contact the third party blasting
contractor with the number of holes, hole diameter, pattern dimensions, hole depths, and
condition of the holes including the amount of water in each hole. From this information
the volume of bulk explosives and blasting accessories will be determined. The quarry
manager and the manager of the third party blasting contractor will schedule the blast for
an appropriate date and time. The blast time will be adjusted on a case-by-case basis to
minimize disruption to vehicle traffic on Little Turkey Creek Road. As discussed below,
Little Turkey Creek Road is not within the "blast area" or"blast site" (as those terms are
defined by MSHA) for any blast conducted at the Hitch Rack Ranch Quarry, but may at
times fall within the scope of a safety corridor created as a measure of protection beyond
strict regulatory requirements. Blasting will occur between the hours of 10:00 AM and
4:00 PM, with no more than three (3)blasts per week. The quarry manager will make
7
