For the area south of the ditch
the Nunn soils unit is the primary unit with a small percentage in the Poudre soils unit.
For the mined area within the Loveland soils unit the A horizon material extends down to
15 inches and then transitioning into a C horizon. For the proposed mine area within the
Nunn soils unit, the A horizon extends down to 6 inches and the B horizon is from 6 to 29
inches then transitions into a C horizon. For the proposed mine area within the Poudre
soils unit the A horizon extends down to 30 inches and the B horizon from 30 to 60
inches.
The Loveland and the Nunn soils are designated as Prime Farmland if irrigated. In
order to preserve the high quality of the soil within these units, the A and B horizons
should be salvaged and stored separately from the C horizons. When it comes time for
soil replacement, the C horizons should be replaced separately and below the A and B
horizons. Please revise the soil salvaging, storage and replacement plan accordingly.
Specifically, please specify the range of depths the A/B horizons and C horizons will be
salvaged. Please indicate how and where the A/B horizons and the C horizons will be
stored separately. Please update the Exhibit C map to indicate where the A/B horizons
and the C horizons will be stored. Please revise the soil replacement plan so the subsoil
will be replaced separately and below the topsoil.
Response 21b
Data obtained from borings over the site indicate that there is sufficient material in the A
and B horizons to provide three feet of cover over the entire proposed disturbed areas.
All material from the C horizon that may be used as cover will be placed under three feet
of A and B horizon material.
The material from the A and B horizons will be stored in landscape berms and in
temporary stockpiles as shown on the updated Exhibit C drawings. Material from
landscape berms will be placed last over final areas to be reclaimed. All material from A
horizons will be removed first and placed at the outside edge of temporary stockpiles and
will be placed last over reclaimed areas, All material from the C horizon will be
processed through the plant and either used in the batch plant, used as liner material, or
placed under the three feet of cover material.
Response to DRMS Adequacy Review 3 comments T E L E S T O
