1. Provide a high level of protection from flows stemming from a 100-year storm centered on
Green Mountain for the Brookfield Development(Solterra) along the south and east side of the
mine
2. Maintain the operational flexibility for General Shale to operate the mine in an economically
viable manner
3. Provide a solution for General Shale Corporate that is cost effective
Assumptions
Dedicated Detention Storage
There will be no dedicated detention storage. Said storage interferes with the ability of General Shale to
mind the assets located underneath.
Outer Ditch Characteristics
Alignment
There are areas along the south and east South Chieftain Mine property line where Brookfield has
indicated they are using the South Chieftain Property Mine property for their drainage. The area along
the eastern property line is draining to the swale in the SE corner of the South Chieftain Property. The
area along the southern property line is draining to the west to the original channel that existed before
the mine was constructed.
Since the outer ditch corridor is to be semi-dedicated, it will be located as far and east as possible yet
respecting the areas where Brookfield has indicated they wish to use South Chieftain property as
indicated in the paragraph above. This outer ditch will outlet into the original channel that existed
before the mine was constructed. The corridor for this location is shown on design sheets C-2 and C-3.
This location provides the protection that Brookfield is seeking and the operational flexibility that
General Shale needs to operate the mine economically efficiently. The rest of the mine in the same
drainage area and located above this alignment either drains into the existing outer channel or inner
channel constructed by General Shale. The contribution to the outer channel has been accounted for in
the Hydrology and Hydraulics sections above. Contributions to the inner channel currently drain and
will continued to drain to the pit in the center of the mine. Water from said pit is pumped to the original
channel that existed before the mine was constructed.
8 07/30/2017
