flow element for each Node and related sub-catchment for each basin. Data values
entered into SWMM for Nodes are shown on Attachment 7.
SWMM Links
The heart of the routing program is the Links. Links are the conduits that transports and
attenuates the combined storm hydrographs as designed by the internal workings of the
software. Link values used in SWMM are also shown on Attachment 7. Values for links
1 and 2 were derived from road construction plans for Alameda Ave (JSC 2016). Links 3
and 4 are natural channels and assumed to be a parabolic shape with the dimensions
shown in Attachment 7. An assumed triangle shaped ditch with a depth of 3 feet and
side slopes of 4:1 was assumed for Links 4-8. Simulation output seemed to show that
this was adequate.
Results
Attachment 8 shows the Node Inflow Summary while Attachment 9 shows the Link or
Conduit flow summary. The key values in the table are the total flow at each element
and link, the maximum depth at full flow and the maximum velocity. The overarching
value is the flow at node 108 and 109. This is the bend where the ditch begins to run
along the toe end of the mine just above the Solterra development. These flows are
308.12 cubic feet per second (cfs) and 310.60 cfs respectively. All velocities in the
various channel sections are greater than 7.00 cfs; rendering them excessive. These will
be addressed in the next section; design.
Design Assumptions
The following are the principals and design assumptions that have been carried through the design.
Principals
1164 7 07/30/2017
