If after blasting actives have been completed, a neighbor discovers potential damage to their
structures, i.e.foundation or wall cracking, broken windows, rock falls, etc., the neighbor should notify
Summit Brick and Tile Company.A complaint may also be filed with the Colorado DRMS.A
representative from Summit Brick will typically visit the structure owner to start the investigation within
24 hours. Based on the results of the initial investigation,The company will make arrangements for
additional data collection by a company representative, with the structure owner, and a representative
from Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety present. The inspection will again be recorded in the
same fashion it was for the initial pre-blast survey. The new survey and the original survey so it can be
compared to identify new versus pre-existing features. During the course of the investigation the DRMS,
the neighbor, and Summit Brick can also review the blast monitoring results prepared by the blasting
contractor. Other data and reports may be reviewed as necessary to help determine the cause of the
damage.
If the damage is determined to have likely resulted from blasting, Summit Brick and Tile
Company will review the blasting log of the recent blasting activity and make modifications to future
blasting to reduce ground vibration and air over pressure instances. Summit Brick, the neighbor, and
DRMS will monitor the damage over the course of the next 3 shots (or more if necessary)to determine if
further damage occurs and to determine the proper course of repairs to the structure and the
responsibility for any repairs. During this monitoring period, Summit Brick and Tile Company will place a
blast monitoring device on the property of the concerned neighbor to log vibration and air over pressure
near the structure. Should the reported damage be substantial (i.e. hazardous conditions), Summit Brick
and Tile Company will immediately work with the neighbor to find a suitable firm to complete repairs.
This will be completed at Summit Bricks costs.
At the completion of the investigation by the DRMS, if the damage in question is determined to
have NOT been caused by blasting activities an agreement will be reached between Summit Brick and
Tile Company and the neighbors to determine the extent of structure repair costs, if any, the company
will be responsible for .
3
