January 18, 2018
BLASTING PLAN FOR SUMMIT BRICK AND TILE COMPANY-FOX PIT
NEAR BEULAH COLORADO
SCOPE OF WORK
The quarry at Beulah has been developed for the extraction of the clay and sandstone as a stone
product, and borrow.
The following is the description of how the area is prepared for the drilling and blasting
of this said material and the procedures used to accomplish this drilling and blasting. Although the
sandstone is predominantly the material being shot, the clay at times will need to be shot.
PREPARATION OF BLASTING AREA
The area to be drilled and blasted is first stripped of the topsoil material, which will be saved in
topsoil stockpiles. This preparation is done as to permit the safe and normal travel across the area by
the drill, drill support equipment and the explosive blend truck.
The areas for blasting are determined by the operators of the mining operation.
PRE-BLAST SURVEY PROCEDURE:
The Pre-Blast Survey will be used to document the existing condition of a structure(s) prior to the
commencement of any blasting activities being conducted within one-half mile of the structure. Since
this mine is nearly 2.5 miles long and will develop over a very long time, doing a Pre-Blast survey on all
of the habitable structures within in the half mile radius of the permit boundary is impractical nor would
it serve much purpose 40 years from now. This survey will be offered to the neighbors of Fox No 1 Clay
Mine where a structure is located within one-half(1/2) mile of the blasting activities at no cost to the
property owner.
The pre-blast survey is meant to protect both the neighbor and Summit Brick and Tile Company.
It does this by providing thorough documentation of the current, existing condition of the structures
surrounding the mine. Once blasting has begun, this documentation will be used to compare any
suspected changes that are reported to the original condition of the property. These surveys will be
used to identify and record the pre-existence of visible cracking or other defects in a structure before
blasting begins on a new Area. It is probable that some structures may have been inspected during the
previous analysis because they were within one-half mile of the previous blasting area.
1
