O'Brian, President, Environment, Inc.
7985 Vance Drive, Suite 205A
Arvada, Colorado 80003
RE: Mined land Reclamation Permit for the Orr Pit
Mr. Steve O'Brian
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the proposed reclamation of the Orr Pit, Located at 1144
33 d LN Pueblo,CO 81006 located in Pueblo County,
The mission of the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife(CPW) is to protect, preserve, enhance, and
manage wildlife and their environment for the use, benefit and enjoyment of the people of Colorado and
its visitors. One of the ways we achieve our mission is to comment on land use proposals such as the
request we received from your agency. Our goal is to provide complete, consistent and timely information
to all entities who request comment on matters within our statutory authority and our mission.
The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife has been solicited to comment on the reclamation of
approximately 15 acres of a pre-existing mine pit consisting of mostly short grass prairie and a small
riparian area to be utilized for the purpose of Parking and storing equipment, named the Orr Pit. CPW
has reviewed the information provided and a site visit was conducted.
CDOW anticipates minimal wildlife impacts associated with the reclamation of the Orr Pit.
The following information contains some reclamation considerations that we hope you will find
beneficial during the reclamation period. Special considerations should be used during this time of light
rainfall and any seeds planted should be assisted with constant watering until established.
Weed Management
Often, minimal attention is paid to weed control efforts that should take place on all parts of a property,
especially a developed one. Non-native vegetation, such as Russian knapwced, easily becomes
established in disturbed areas and roadways and can be detrimental to other more wildlife friendly native
vegetation. The CPW therefore, recommends that control of non-native vegetation occur regularly on all
parts of the gravel mine property. It is recommended that the non-native'rarnarisk and Russian olive be
removed completely from the reclaimed area. Any native Cotton%%ood or large native deciduous trees
should be left standing. Revegetation of disturbed areas and areas of weed infestation is important to the
long-term success of the project and CPW acknowledges the potential difficulty of this undertaking.
Therefore, CPW suggests that a Noxious Weed Management Plan be completed to address this often
Bob D.Broschetd,Ehreaor,Cdol a0U Far$s5 and WAC1100-Parks and Wddttfe COnvnt%ion'Robert W.
