As a result, the proposed Quarry will reduce the availability of water to wells in the <br /> area. The installation of monitoring wells, as offered by Transit Mix, would be <br /> ineffective to anticipate and prevent this damage. R. at 8928-29. <br /> The proposed Quarry is in an area of high biodiversity significance and <br /> would border an existing nature preserve. R. at 4407. The nature preserve will be <br /> expanded in the future to include part of the Ingersoll Ranch, which also adjoins <br /> the proposed Quarry boundary. R. at 9055-56. The Aiken Canyon Preserve <br /> includes habitat for wildlife such as black bear, mule deer, elk, mountain lions, <br /> bobcats, gray foxes, badgers, tuft-eared pine squirrels, and more than one hundred <br /> species of bird. R. at 4407. There are more than six hundred species of plants <br /> located in the proposed Quarry location. Id. The proposed Quarry location is <br /> within a migratory corridor for animals including elk and mule deer and provides <br /> habitat for wild turkeys. Id. The proposed Quarry location is located within one of <br /> the three Mexican Spotted Owl "Critical Habitats" west of Colorado Springs. R. at <br /> 4408. Critical habitat may include areas that are not currently occupied by the <br /> species but are needed for its recovery. Id. The site of the proposed Quarry <br /> contains good quality foraging habitat and possibly roosting habitat for the <br /> Mexican Spotted Owl. Id. <br /> 7 <br />
