bedrock. Soils of this map unit are well draining and have moderately rapid permeability. These
soils have a high erosion hazard to wind and water.
Map Unit MS
Soils of this unit are the result of past mining operations. Areas where this unit is mapped are
flat with varying degrees of volunteer vegetation and are truncated hills or ridges. These soils
are very gravelly (35%), of sandy loam or loamy sand textures. Wind erosion and water erosion
hazard is low because of the high gravel content. This very high gravel content causes the
surface of these soils to become quite warm during summer months, and young grass or other
flora seedlings have high mortality rates.
As described in the mining plan, all topsoil will be salvaged and used in reclamation, although
many areas have no topsoil from pre-law mining activity. It is expected that total salvage depths
in the virgin areas will average 6 inches and there will be no differentiation between the A, B, or
C horizons. Soils are simply too thin to try to salvage separately. Only minor pockets of suitable
fines are available from the disturbed areas. Most pre-law stockpiled gravels were washed by
past pre-law attempts to mine gold and the fine material for rooting no longer exists.
In addition to salvage of soils from virgin areas, substitute topsoil will be salvaged from the
settling ponds of both the gold and gravel operations on-site. These will be stored in stockpiles as
described in the mining plan and as shown on Map C-2. All stockpiles will be immediately
seeded using the temporary seed mix shown in the mining plan.
Alma Placer Mine CretIAwait*Ad kl, utrs NA
December 2017 1-4
