A standard 55 gallon drum spill kit is placed on-site to be rapidly employed if a spill of
flocculant were to occur. All employees will be trained to check for spills of flocculant and
trained in the use of the spill kit. In addition, DBMS, CDPHE, and Park County Department of
Health will be immediately notified if any flocculant spill occurs.
Flocculant will allow all solids to settle out in the initial area of the sluice tails pond. This pond is
excavated in native material—glacial debris and alluvium, and has shown itself to not drain to
the surrounding area. As the pond is used, silt and fines will build up within the pond, further
reducing its permeability.
5.2 Water Transmission
A sluice pond is not lined with a synthetic liner. The pond is excavated in native material that has a
significant proportion of fines within it. Sluicing operations directed to the pond will decrease the
permeability of the pond even further as silt and fines build up along the pond's base. Water will
leave the pond in two ways: recycling to the sluice itself, and evaporation. Infiltration will be
negligible. Any overflow from the sluice ponds will be contained on-site by existing site berms and
sumps.
6. Water Information, Rights and Augmentation
All water rights issues such as availability of water for this operation, consumption rates, dust
control, etc. is presented in Exhibit G- Water Information.
7. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will occur Monday through Saturday during the hours of 7 am to 7 pm.
Mining, screening and processing will be conducted with portable equipment at various times of
the year. Product will be sold from this activity throughout the year, although little material is
expected to be sold in winter months. The operator will not have night gravel mining operations,
although minor truck activity or repairs may occur after hours. Mining and processing will take
place no more than 12 hours per day, between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm, Monday through
Saturday. Hauling will take place from 7 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday.
8. Park County Impacts and Environmental Impacts
Alma Placer Mine (.rev VIAA
December 2017 D-12
