Mining of each area will take place in the following steps:
1. Removal and stockpiling of topsoil and overburden.
2. Mining of placer gold-bearing gravel to bedrock. Dewatering of the active area, if
needed, will pump water into a temporary settling basin adjacent to the active pit.
3. Transition toward the next area by removal and stockpiling of topsoil and overburden.
4. Begin backfilling of the previous area and begin reclamation.
5. Active mining can begin in the next area as topsoil and overburden are removed.
Repetition of the above outlined general area mining procedure allows mining and reclamation to
occur concurrently effectively minimizing disturbed ground on-site and the size of the
reclamation bond. Furthermore, by directly replacing overburden from the future mining area to
the recent and finished mining area, overburden on-site is conserved via a short distance of
transport and limited exposure to the elements.
The processing building will remain after reclamation as a horse barn for the residents of the site,
in conjunction with the approved residential land use of this area.
Three components of a portable gravel processing plant(crushing, screening, and washing)will
be located somewhere in the gold mining area. Due to the plants portable nature, they may be
located at various locations within the gravel pit area. Approximately 8-9 acres will be used for
plants as well as stockpile areas. These areas are in addition to the stockpiles designated for the
fixed gold plant described above.
Used asphalt pavement and concrete rubble may be stockpiled on-site to be used in future
crushing and stockpiling for use as a recycled material in new construction. Occasionally, soil
that is determined to be free of debris and is inert may be brought on-site and stockpiled for use
during reclamation.
Mine access will be via Colorado State Highway 9—Main Street accessed from U.S. Highway
285 to the south or from Breckenridge along Hwy 9 to the north.
The maximum disturbance is discussed in Exhibit L. The expected mining life is discussed
below.
Alma Placer Mine trek+ »Ar And Asuxwtm YIAX
December 2017 D-5
