Actions taken to respond to and correct the emergency situation or condition
• At approximately 7:20 am, a release of water was observed at the refinery located at AGADR. An
estimated 350 gallons of water exited the refinery and flowed approximately 100 feet to the south, off of
containment. The fresh water feed to the wet scrubber was turned on; however the sump pumps were not
running. Consequently, water draining from the scrubber overtopped the sumps and drained out of the
refinery door.
• At approximately 7:25 personnel noticed the release and immediately turned the sump pumps on,
stopping the release.
• The majority of the water released from the refinery collected in two parking ditches located in front of
AGADR(see photo 1).
• A submersible pump was used to pump the pooled water from the parking ditches back into AGADR(see
photo 2). After ponded water was pumped back into AGADR, a backhoe was used to collect the impacted
soil (see photo 3 and 4). The soil was removed using an `over-excavation' approach. Depth of recovery
was approximately six to twelve inches.
1
