Summit Brick and Tile Company Fox No 1 Clay Pit
M-1977-219 -Adequacy Response#1 November 13, 2017
We have revised the 1977, 1991 and 1995 Mining Plans filed with
the Division and add the text to the revised Exhibit D that is
attached. In general some editing was done to make the text more
generic since these plans called for a single area covering 40
acres or less to be mined and the new plan is to have up to 9
mining area . In reviewing the existing plan, each mining area
will start with stripping topsoil, then overburden, drilling and
shooting the sandstone cap rock and then mining the clay. This
does not change as mining progresses through the mine .
14. The Mining Plan narrative discusses the Applicant is not sure of the location of actual
reserves in the mining area and is proposing to investigate each mining stage with
exploration activities. Please provide details on these exploration activities and update
Exhibit L to include the reclamation costs of such activities.
The exploration will be done under the 2017 Notice Of Intent
(NOI) , File # P-2003-007 currently on file with the Division. It
is my understanding that the NOI covers disturbance and details
of the exploration plan. This narrative was intended to explain
that as a mining area developed it would be necessary to further
investigate the amount of clay reserves that Summit Brick and
Tile Company could expect to find before actually going thru the
expense of opening the area. As an example, no historic drilling
has been done in areas E-1 & E-2 so to remove approximately 35
feet of cover from the area prior to knowing if there is an
economic viable supply of clay is not practical . It will neeed
to be drilled first .
15. The Applicant states exploration activities may discover new clay and sandstone reserves
which are not identified in the mining plan and would be either covered by a new stage or
added to an existing stage. Please note, adding a new mining stage or revising an existing
stage within the approved permit/affected lands boundary will require a Technical
Revision to the Mining and Reclamation Plans. Please also note, adding a new mining
stage or revising an existing stage outside the approved affected lands boundary will
require an Amendment.
We understand that if a new mining stage is added within the
permit area a Technical Revision will be required and if it is
outside the permit an Amendment will be needed.
7
