Summit Brick and Tile Company Fox No 1 Clay Pit
M-1977-219 -Adequacy Response#1 November 13, 2017
Approximately 28% of the total permit area will not be disturbed
by mining and only 3 . 8% of the site will be disturbed at one time
so impacts will be minimal . Speed limits on the mine site are
set at 15 mph, haul road lengths are kept to the minimum length
needed for safety at the mine . There are sufficient areas around
the active mining area for wildlife that use the area to avoid
the active parts of the mine or if they are displaced. Migration
corridors for larger big game species are usually located in the
canyons that bisect the site and these areas will remind
undisturbed throughout the life of the mine . We also note that
it is not, unusual to enter the mine in the morning and find big
game animals in the mine and small game species using the rock
piles and building as cover areas . As the DOW said in 1991 "Impact
should be minimal' and in 2017 "Due to the continued development and the consistent activity at
the mine, it may be unlikely that a difference in big and small game wildlife responses will be noted " &
"CWP dose not foresee any complications with federally or state threatened or endangered species"
EXHIBIT I - Soils Information (Rule 6.4.9):
34. The Custom Soil Resource Report's Soil Map lacks information on areas of the proposed
permit boundary. Please submit a corrected Soil Map which identifies the soil units for
affected lands in the southwest and northeast portions of Section 19.
This was corrected. Please find a larger scale soils map on Map
Exhibit C-3 and attached is a corrected copy of the soils map
figure found in Exhibit I - Soils .
EXHIBIT L—Reclamation Costs (Rule 6.4.12):
35. The Division will calculate a cost estimate after applicable adequacy items are addressed.
The Applicant will be provided copy of the cost estimate for review before the decision
date.
We understand this and appreciate your help .
36. The Exhibit L cost estimate contains a reference to mulch and fertilizer as a part of the
revegetation, however, these are not discussed in Exhibit E. Please clarify this
discrepancy.
16
