A=COM
Technical Memorandum — 3 Dam Reslope Project
October 5, 2017
Page 6
l ,
{
.,Pz' t '
i * k
Photo 6 — View of excess tailings placement in stepback area (June 27).
Julv 18. 2017
Regrading/trimming of the downstream slope of the original 3 Dam was just finishing at the south
abutment (except for around two remaining instruments near the south end of the dam that need to
be lowered), using a Caterpillar D8T dozer with GPS elevation control on the blade.
The cut varied from about 1 to 4 feet at the toe and 2 to 10 feet at the crest. The exposed material at
the base of the cut was similar to that observed on previous visits.
All but two of the instruments that required adjustment have been lowered, with one of the last two
(Piezometers G-2) lowered today. A spray -on dust suppressant has been placed on the northern
one-half of the regraded slope.
Placement/compaction of the excess fill was in progress on the south end of the stepback area, west
of the stepback drain. A Caterpillar 950F front-end loader was loading three Cat 740E articulating
haul trucks, who in turn hauled the material to the 3 Dam stepback area. A Cat D8T dozer then
spread the material in lifts and provided basic tracking compaction. AECOM recommended that the
haul trucks also alter their path as they traverse the drop area, to provide additional compaction.
