It is my understanding that a significant number of homes will be exposed to particulates
that will be coming from all directions - the North, the West and South and most likely the
East as well.
My husband and I are firmly convinced that it is not only our health and safety that stand to
be impacted by the proposed pit. Our home property value and the quality of our well
water will be negatively impacted as well.
I believe that the predicament of the members of LaPorte warrants serious concern from
the local government owing to the fact that:
a. No Health Studies have been undertaken to ensure the health and safety of the
populace of a 6 -square -mile community to the DIRECT and cumulative effects of
particulate emissions coming from what is to become - if not already - a high density
heavy -industrial mining and chemical processing ground.
b. No studies have been undertaken to address the economic impact on the common
people brought about by the depreciation of property values triggered by the
negative effect of health hazards associated with mining and on-site processing
literally ongoing in the backyards of homes.
Like myself and my spouse, a significant number of people in our community are in their
SQ's and older. Some are disabled by age or a medical condition that stand to be directly
affected by the nuisance and pollution from the proposed pit(s) and/or impacted
financially by loss of funds invested in the equity of their homes.
For retired seniors like my spouse and myself who have spent most of our lives working
towards the goal of a humble retirement and rely heavily on a fixed income to manage
mortgage payments, loss of home equity brought about by an unwarranted home value
depreciation would be devastating. In our case, the loss will undoubtedly lead to emotional
distress and a foreseeable homelessness.
I believe that bringing the threat of the proposed mine to the attention of the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety is timely and well-founded. It is an attempt to
seek urgent assistance to avert any potential harm that might come to the community from
an aggregate mining and processing facility situated dangerously close to the homes.
Along with the increasing number of concerned citizens of LaPorte, l am strongly urging for
the exercise of your authority to help arrive at a just determination that will serve common
good by restoring to the people of LaPorte the inalienable right to a healthy and safe
environment.
Thank you, Mr. Ebert.
Since -rely,
U"_ -;
