5. Fish Resources
There are no fish resources in the mining areas. The Tomichi Creek passes through the permit area,
and contains trout, bass, and other fish species.
6. General Effects of the Operation on the Existing Wildlife of the Area
Sand and gravel extraction and processing activities will no doubt create some disturbance to
animals near the site. However, resident wildlife is partially acclimated to the presence of
construction material operations, due to the presence of the existing portions of the Ready Mix Pit.
No new processing area will be developed, and production will be the same in the expanded
operation as the existing. Migrating animals will probably avoid the site, but the proposed pit does
not block any known migratory routes, and wildlife should be able to move through the area
unimpeded. Due to the possibility for animal/vehicle collisions, hauling activities will probably
pose the biggest threat to wildlife. Haul trucks should keep to posted speeds and drivers need to
remain aware of the potential for collisions.
The landowner commits to not stocking the reclaimed ponds with any species that is not desirable
to the CDOW.
A wetland fringe will be established along the pond edges, which should improve waterfowl use
after reclamation. United will work with Gunnison County and Colorado Parks and Wildlife to
ensure that the wetlands are successful.
Ready Mix Pit October 2017 H-2 X w„IadeW aid 41004001.nax
