STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED -TECHNICALLY PREPARED
J. ERICH RAUBER,P.E.
MAY DAY IDAHO MINE COMPLEX
112(d) PERMIT -AMENDMENT
EXHIBIT G
Water Information
6.4.7
6.4.7(1), 6.4.21(8); Statement of Effect on Surface Water and/or Groundwater
Sunrise Mining, LLC conducted baseline monitoring activities pursuit to Section 3.1.6,
3.1.7 and 6.4 7 (See Attachment G-1). Procedures described within the Environmental
Protection Plan (EPP) (Exhibit U — Designated Mining Operation Environmental
Protection Plan) and permit commitments summarized in Exhibit M (Other Permits and
Licenses) will minimize potential impacts to surface and ground water.
A summary of the hydrogeologic balance for the project area is presented on Table G-1.
The section includes a discussion of site water resources including surface and
groundwater quality characteristics.
The Operator has characterized water quality utilizing existing sampling points and has
adequately characterized the site geology for baseline purposes using historical data. Site
characterization, including surface and groundwater monitoring will continue during
mining and reclamation to provide information to determine and report if the
environmental baseline condition has change. The four inch production and
monitoring wells will be plugged and abandoned in accordance with Division of
Water Resources (DWR). Four DWR permitted groundwater monitoring wells were
drilled in 2012. Well completion data summary is presented on Table G-2. Pumps
were installed in May Day No. 1 and No. 2 wells and the Idaho and La Plata River
alluvial wells were bailed in order to obtain water quality samples and to support in the
determination of the depth to ground water, flow direction and aquifer flow velocity
(Section 3.1.7(b)(i)).
The general flow direction coincides with the topography and stratigraphic dip. The
estimated flow rate is less than 10-5 cm/sec. (Rule 6.4.21(8). A monitoring well is located
near the historic Idaho Mill building; adjacent to May Day No. 1 and No. 2 mine portal,
and another one located is completed in the LaPlata alluvium.
