Preliminary Report for Data Recovery at Sites MK -1-082317 and MK -2-082317 Colowyo Coal Company
Figure 17. Site MK -2-082317, Feature 2, Full Excavation, facing west.
3.2.3.3 Feature 4
Feature 4 is semi -circular dark stained sediment with charcoal flecking approximately 41 cm north
to south by 89 cm east to west (Figures 18 and 19). Actual top of the feature is unknown. However,
the feature appears to be approximately 10 cm below ground surface. The size and location of
the feature within the site grid system necessitated one 1 by 1 m unit being established to
investigate it.
The feature's depth below the mechanically exposed surface is 11 cm below the 186N 196E unit
datum. Overall feature shape appears to be roughly circular in planview with an irregular basin
profile. Two large roots pass through the features and insect burrows is moderately distorting the
eastern half of the feature, but the western half is largely intact. Feature fill consisted of dark
stained sediment (10YR3/1, Very Dark Gray) with sparse charcoal flecking. Several unaltered
rocks are also included in the feature fill.
Tetra Tech September 29, 2017 16
