Preliminary Report for Data Recovery at Sites MK -1-082317 and MK -2-082317 Colowyo Coal Company
Table 1. Cultural Features and Associated Units
Feature No.
Description
Associated Unit
F1
Circular thermal feature
20ON 200E
measuring 73 by 60 cm.
199N 200E
F2
Amorphous stained
205N 200E
sediment measuring 66 by
44 cm.
F3
Circular thermal feature
199N 200E
measuring 35 by 30 cm.
F5
Semi -circular stained
195N 196E
sediment measuring 54 by
51 cm.
the feature within the site grid system necessitated two 1 by 1 m units being established to
investigate it.
The feature's depth is 8.5 cm below the 200N 200E unit datum. Overall feature shape appears to
be a circular basin with a mostly even bottom. Minor root action is not significantly distorting the
overall shape. Feature fill consisted of dark stained sediment (5Y2.5/1, Black); varying dense
charcoal flecking and dense HAR. One hundred and eight pieces of HAR were recovered. Most
of the HAR is in the 3 to 1 cm diameter size class (29 pieces (0.50 kg)) and the 1 cm diameter
size class (35 pieces (0.50 kg)). The 5 to 3 cm diameter size class is the next most common (26
pieces (0.80 kg)) with the remaining HAR in the 10 to 5 cm diameter size class (16 pieces (1.0
kg)) and the 10 cm diameter size class (1 piece (0.75 kg)).
Figure 5.
