September 20, 2017 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine JDM

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1

- A heavy infestation of cattails has been established in the pond. To ensure that the capacity of the pond is
not compromised the vegetation should be managed.
Pond PP-1 is a concrete pond that was holding water and stable at the time of the inspection.
Pond PP-2 contained water with no discharge noted. Embankments were stable and well vegetated with no
problems noted. A heavy amount of algae is noted in the pond with no noticeable effects observed.
The fresh water lagoon contained water and was stable with no problems noted at the time of the inspection.
Pond RP-1 was dry at the time of the inspection. Embankments were stable and well vegetated at the time of the
inspection. The primary and emergency spillways were in compliance with no problems noted.
Pond RP-2/3 was impounding a small amount of water in the upper cells and the lower cell at the time of the
inspection. No discharge was noted. The embankments were stable and well vegetated at the time of the
inspection.
Pond RP-4 was dry with no evidence of recent discharge at the time of the inspection. The pond embankments
were stable. No problems were noted with the spillways at the time of the inspection.
Pond RP-5a was dry at the time of the inspection. The combination primary/emergency spillway found to be in
compliance with no problems noted. The embankments were well vegetated and stable.
Pond RR-1 was dry at the time of the inspection. Embankments were stable with no problems noted. Primary
riser and emergency spillway found to be in compliance.
Pond SS-1 was observed from the Slot Storage pad and was dry, with no discharge at the time of the inspection.
Embankments appeared stable and well vegetated with no signs of damage.
Pond SS-2 was dry at the time of the inspection. No problems were noted. Embankments appeared stable with
good vegetation throughout. Due to wild fire fighting efforts, aerial fire retardant was within the pond.

The D-Seam dewatering pond system #1 was stable and maintained at the time of the inspection. Water was
contained within three of the six cells associated with the system. No discharge was noted at the time of the
inspection. No problems were noted.

The D-Seam dewatering pond system #2 ponds 5A, 3 and 4 of the Phase I construction have been completed, with
the exception of the discharge and flume of the finishing Pond 4. Contractors installing the Pond 4 flume were on-
site at the time of the inspection. The ponds have been completed as designed with the exception of slight
modifications associated with Pond 5A. These modifications should be noted in as-built designs. The
modifications observed should not have an impact on the outflow design or a major deviation of the holding
capacity of the pond. Dewatering was in progress at Pond 5A and discharging to Pond 3. No problems were
noted, with the exception of the following:
- The northwest corner of the Pond 5A embankment has developed a small seep. There is not a constant
flow from the seep and no sediment was observed leaving through the seep. This area should be monitored
to ensure that the integrity of the embankment is not compromised.

Ditches and culverts throughout the mine site were stable with no problems noted.
