September 18, 2017
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Attn: Mr. Elliott Russell
1313 Sherman St, Rm. 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Notice and Request to import fill material from off-site, and on to the Grisenti Farms
Gravel Pit, File No. M2001-005
Dear Mr. Russell:
Transit Mix Concrete Co. (TMCC) on behalf of Continental Materials Corporation (CMC)
proposes to import material from off-site for use in its reclamation program. The material will
be used at the Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit, file number M2001-005. According to the provisions
of Rule3.1.5 (9), "If an Operator intends to backfill inert structural fill generated outside the
approved permit area, it is the Operator's responsibility to provide the Office notice of any
proposed backfill activity not identified in the approved Reclamation Plan."
• Bonding Adequacy:
We believe the current bonding is adequate. Any imported waste construction material will
be placed onto existing berms, adjacent to areas needing backfilled. This will reduce
possible costs associated with importation of backfill. At present, we believe there is
sufficient overburden on site to achieve the post mining land use. However, having
additional material on site is considered a prudent position for TMCC. Having excess
material on hand can enhance the final reclamation and will add little to the final cost for site
reclamation, versus the cost of being short and having to import additional backfill.
There are some small areas (around 2.0 acres)on the mine site that will need to be brought
up to a slightly higher final grade in order to meet the required two feet above the prevailing
ground water elevation. In addition, there are several small process water ponds which could
be filled with imported waste material. The final grading process will spread the imported
materials as needed.
Given the proximity of ground water to the operation (Pond Two water will be in connection
with ground water), no waste concrete material will be disposed on site.
• Grisenti Farms Gravel Pit Notice:
The Notice shall include, at a minimum, the following information, Rule 3.1.5(9):
1
