All applications consisted of mainly spot spraying the targeted weeds. The areas which
were spot sprayed are shown on Figure 1.
October 31, 2016 Application
On October 31, 2016, Weed Wranglers spot sprayed for Chinese clematis and cut and treated
Russian olive trees around the Schwartzwalder Mine site, with occasional spot spraying of bull
thistle, Canada thistle, myrtle spurge, diffuse knapweed, common mullein, houndstongue, and
Dalmatian toadflax along with other noxious weeds as detailed on the enclosed Herbicide
Application Record. A total of five technicians from Weed Wranglers sprayed the herbicide
Ranger Pro at a rate of 10 ounces (oz) per acre totaling 31.5 oz sprayed. They also sprayed
herbicide Garlon 3A at a rate of 8 oz per acre totaling 12 oz sprayed. Marking dye was added
to the herbicide at a rate of 0.24 oz per acre (0.9 oz applied), and surfactant added at a rate of
0.32 oz per acre (1 oz applied). Surfactant was mixed with the herbicide mixture to promote
spreading and adhering of the herbicide mixture to the plant surface. The treated area
(approximately 3 acres) required that approximately 45.4 oz of chemical were applied mixed
with the appropriate amount of water. The application was done with backpack sprayers for
spot spraying and toppers for tree cutting from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm. The weather was sunny
and calm and temperatures ranged in the 70's.
Schwartzwalder Mine 2017 Weed Management Update Page 3
September 15,2017
