Re: Golden Eagle mine — Final Bond Release
Notice is hereby given that a Phase II and III final bond release application for the Golden
Eagle Mine (permit number C-81-013, first issued on January 25, 1984) will be filed with
the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. New Elk Coal Company, LLC
is the applicant, and its business address is 12250 State Highway 12, Weston Colorado
81091. The Golden Eagle Mine is located in Las Animas County, Colorado about 24
miles west of Trinidad Colorado on private land in part of Section 19 of Township 33
South, Range 67 West and located within the USGS 7.5 minute Vigil quadrangle.
Currently, there is no physical area associated with the Golden Eagle permit. On July 25,
2017, the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety approved the transfer of the
Golden Eagle Northwest Airshaft reclamation site to the New Elk Mine; permit number
C-1981-012. The Northwest Airshaft reclamation site was the only remaining portion of
the Golden Eagle Mine permit and the only area covered by the reclamation bond posted
for the Golden Eagle permit. If this bond release application is approved, a cash bond of
$72,099.00 would be released and the Golden Eagle mining permit terminated.
