2.04.9 Soils Resource Information
RANGELANDS
The soils of the site area have been used as rangeland in the past. Predicted
forage production for rangeland soils during favorable, normal, and unfavorable years
for various sites are given in Table 4.4-3, which is based on generalized SCS data (Soil
Interpretation Records). Capability classes for the soils are II, III, IV, or VI. The principal
limitations are wetness and erosion. Soils in capability class II have some limitations
that reduce the choice of plants or require moderate conservation practices. Soils in
capability classes III and IV have severe limitations that make them unsuited to
cultivation and limit their use largely to grazing woodland or wildlife.
