8. Water Consumption
Most of the water consumption within the Detroit City Mine will be use underground for drilling.
Water will be used on the surface for dust control. These two uses will likely use no more than 1.0
ac-ft annually. This water will be purchased from the Town of Alma.
9. Roads
The existing access and haul road on the property will be expanded to meet MSHA safety
requirements. This will take up 1.42 acres of the permit. The road will be a total of 20 feet wide.
Runoff control on the haul road will consist of all roads draining in towards the mountain slope and
using an internal ditch to convey water. This internal ditch will be created by maintaining a road
surface grade of at least-1%into the cut side of the road at all times.
10. Water
The only water that will be encountered during operations at the Detroit City Mine will be surface
water from storm events. The mining operations will not affect any local water rights, or interfere
with any local water ways.
10.1 Surface Water
Outside of the haul road, the only other disturbed area that will need surface water control will be
the WRL. The collection and diversion ditches associated with this control can be seen on Map C-2.
The diversion ditch has been designed to convey the uphill runoff of the 100-YR 24-HR event away
from the WRL to existing drainages. This diversion ditch will be installed at the beginning of
mining. Collection ditches will be exist along the east and west sides of the WRL as it grows. The
ditches will consist of the WRL slope on one side(3H:IV) and the natural upslope of the native
ground on the other(-8H:1 V). These collection ditches will convey any runoff from the WRL to
the sediment pond to the south (downhill).
The sediment pond will be able to handle the entire 10-YR 24-HR event for the entire disturbed
WRL area. It will be dewatered via pump.
Detroit City Mine February 2017 C-3
