This
water is process related water, but is also used as fire water. On April 28th, Henderson maintenance
department noticed that water was coming up near a hydrant at a very slow rate (<0.5gallons per minute)
and reporting to a nearby stormwater drain, which reports directly to the Henderson tailing impoundment.
Henderson evaluated the source of the water by isolating this leg of the system. At that point, they
determined it was process water and notified environmental.
The following paragraphs correspond to the elements of the follow-up written notice set forth in Rule
8.2.3, paragraphs (a) through (e), of the DRMS Rules and Regulations:
(a) After discovering the issue, Henderson employees isolated the hydrant and valve to the
line to stop any additional release.
(b) The water release did not adversely impact human health, property or the environment.
This is based on the known chemistry of the water and the location of the event. Water
flowed to a storm drain nearby and reported to the tailing storage facility.
(c) The contact person for this event is:
Tim Haynes
19302 County Road 3
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720-942-3518
(d) No monitoring or analyses were performed for this situation since the water from the fire
line was not released off-site and did not impact any natural water body.
