3. STORMWATER MANAGEMENT CONTROLS
This section of the SWMP identifies potential sources of pollution which may reasonably be expected to
affect the quality of storm water discharges from the limestone quarry and describes and ensures the
implementation of practices to be used to reduce the pollutants in such storm water discharges to assure
compliance with the terms and conditions of the Permit. Implementation of these provisions of the SWMP
is a condition of the Permit.
3.1 Potential Sources of Pollution
GCC has identified the following materials that reasonably may be expected to be exposed to
storm water runoff and affect the quality of storm water discharges from the quarry.
1. Limestone and other calcium sources,
2. Overburden,
3. Top soil,
4. Cement kiln refractory material and coating,
5. Clinker,
6. Blasting agent,
7. Oils and lubricants, and
8. Surfactants and soil stabilizers for fugitive dust and erosion control,
9. Soil amendments for reclamation.
These materials maybe exposed to storm water runoff through a variety of activities. The
following mining activities were evaluated for the reasonable potential for contributing pollutants to
storm water runoff:
➢ Mining,
➢ Loading and unloading operations,
➢ Haul Roads
➢ Blasting,
➢ Stockpiles of raw material, overburden, topsoil, clinker&waste rock,
➢ Significant dust or particulate generating processes,
➢ Routine maintenance of mobile equipment,
5
