Exhibit C
Mining Plan
a) Mining of the sand and gravel deposit was scheduled to commence approximately April 1, 1995
and end approximately April 1, 1997. The amended application requests an additional mining
period scheduled to commence April 2017 and end approximately April 2020.
b) Topsoil depth is approximately 10-inch sand is described as dark grayish brown loam and
calcareous looms and fine sandy loam. Topsoil will be striped and stockpiled away from active
mining area. Sloping of these stockpiles will be no steeper than 3H:1 V and the slopes will be
mulched with straw to prevent wind or water erosion. Operator will also seed stockpiles with a
suitable cover crop to minimize weed production of wind erosion. Topsoil stockpiling will be
approximately 7,500 cubic yards. The topsoil stockpiles will be located in the east side of the pit.
c) Overburden will no doubt be part of the 10-inch topsoil depth. All overburden above the sand and
gravel deposit will be stripped and stockpiled.
d) Thickness of the sand and gravel deposit ranges from 5-10' in thickness.
e) An existing farm road will access the pit. There will be no structures erected. Sand and gravel
material will be stockpiled and used for a base for recreation trails both on-site and off-site.
f) Pit will be operated as an open pit. The gravel pit and material stockpile dimensions will be
determined to facilitate 3H:1 V slope.
g) Pit will be accessed by existing farm road approximately by 10' wide. Road may need periodic
grading to accommodate truck traffic.
h) There will be no water used in conjunction with the mining operation.
i) The pit may intercept groundwater throughout the year due to proximity to South Platte River.
Interception of local surface drainage may occur. No detrimental effects of quality are anticipated.
All surface and ground water depletions will be replaced.
j) Owner has submitted a well permit application for the gravel pit in January 2017.
k) No refuse acid or toxic producing materials will be exposed.
1) There will be no disturbance to hydrologic balance as depletions from this is a pit will be
augmented. Reclamation will be consistent with the future land use of recreation.
m) Sand and gravel deposit will be stockpiled on site for use by the City of Sterling. There will be no
crushing, asphalt mulching, leaching, or mixing.
n) Sand and gravel will be the primary commodities mined at this site for use by the City of Sterling
for a base for recreation trails both on-site and off-site.
o) Sand and gravel will be the primary commodities; no incidental materials expected to be
mined/extracted.
p) No explosives will be used in conjunction with mining at this site.
