March 27, 2017 C-1981-025/North Thompson Creek Mine CCW
- The embankments of the T-2 Pond were well vegetated and stable. There were no issues noted. The water
impounded in the pond had reached the level of the primary spillway. The spillway is a PVC pipe in the
embankment of the pond. The spillway was functioning as designed and was discharging water to the P9 Pond.
- The P9 Pond was full at the time of the inspection. The embankments were well vegetated and stable. There
were no indications of erosion. The level of the water in the P9 Pond had reached the level of the primary
spillway. The design of the primary spillway is an open ditch. The spillway was in good repair and functioning as
designed.
- The spillway from the P9 Pond directs the discharge to an open ditch leading to the Refuse Pond. This dich was
transporting water at the time of the inspection. The ditch is generally in good condition and is functioning as
designed. There are two portions of the ditch that are within the first couple hundred feet after the P9 Pond
that should be cleaned. These portions of the ditch have filled in with sediment and were nearing the height
of the edges of the ditch (Photos 3 & 4). Please clean these portions of the ditch to ensure that no water
overflows.
- The Refuse Pond was impounding water (Photo 5). The level of the water in the pond was not at the level of the
old primary spillway. The old primary spillway was plugged to prevent the water from discharging from the pond.
This was done at the landowner's request to support the post mining land use. The embankments were well
vegetated and stable. There were no issues noted.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
There are 4.1 acres of land at the North Thompson Creek Mines associated with the water treatment
system. The land has been approved to be a permanent feature to support the post -mining land use. Weeds such
as Plumeless thistle have been identified at the site in previous DRMS inspections. Please continue to follow the
weed management plan outlined in the North Thompson Creek Permit and spray for noxious weeds as necessary.
SIGNS AND MARKERS — Rule 4.02:
The mine identification signs are posted to the right of the mine entrance. The signs display the site's
permit number, correct applicant information and the correct current information about the Division.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None
OTHER (SPECIFY): None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 8
