Bench Top Study
Because Aggregate Industries may desire to start reclamation activities prior to two full years of
the test plots, a bench top study will also be conducted as part of year 1 activities. The purpose
of the study is to supplement field plots information. By growing indoors, faster germination and
vegetative growth can be achieve. The bench top study allows:
• Comparison of treatment performance
• Assessment of plant germination success and plant vigor over time
• Assessment of treatment media to determine potential deficiencies and amendment
needs
The following steps will be followed:
• Set up bench scale study using 5-gallon buckets. Use treatments (T1 through T4) listed
in Table 1. Each treatment will be run in triplicate (three pots per treatment for total of
12 pots)
• The same seed mix and seeding density for the test plots will be used for the bench top
study.
• The pots will be grown in greenhouse or indoor bench top with controlled temperature
and water added to keep soils moist but not saturated (follow standard greenhouse
watering methods for growing plants).
• Growth will be documented following procedures described for monitoring above.
hdrinc.com River Quarry at Parkcenter,412 E Parkcenter Blvd Suite 100, Boise, ID 83706-6659
(208)387-7000
4
