receiving seeds. A native seed mix will be used comprised of the species and mixtures
recommended by Boulder County Land Use Department. Seeds will be broadcast using a
calibrated hand spreader and applied at recommended rates. Plots will then be mulched using
native grass hay (certified noxious weed-free). The mulch will be applied so it is dense enough
s to shade the soil and prevent wind desiccation, but not so dense as to retard grass seedling
emergence. Properly applied hay mulch should form a porous layer with some soil still visible.
This thickness of mulch often corresponds to an application rate of 1 to 2 tons per acre. Any
type of hay or straw will be crimped into the soil to minimize loss of hay by wind or water
erosion.
Irrigation
No irrigation is proposed assuming seeding is done in fall (a spring seeding might be feasible if
done when ground is wet and there is sufficient moisture to obtain germination).
Monitoring
Test plots will be monitored twice per year, spring and fall. Monitoring activities will include:
• Photographs of plots and plants
• Vegetative survey that includes identification of plant types, plant heights, plant
density, overall vegetation density, presences of weeds.
• General observations such as evidince of erosion and pest issues.
• Soil test will be collected in the fall for each plot and tested for routine soil nutrient
assessment by Colorado State University including major plant nutrients and
micronutrients.
hdrinc.com River Quarry at Parkcenter,412 E Parkcenter Blvd Suite 100, Boise, ID 83706-6659
(208)387-7000
3
