The regraded surfaces will be ripped if necessary to relieve compaction and to provide
for root penetration. Topsoil will be placed and spread with either a front end loader or
track mounted backhoe. Handling topsoil in such a manner will minimize deterioration
of the biological, chemical, and physical properties of the topsoil and will prevent excess
compaction and contamination of the topsoil. Topsoil will not be handled when
saturated either during the initial stripping, spreading or final grading. Handling sticky
or plastic soils in a saturated state will reduce the quality of the topsoil by degrading the
physical characteristics.
After the topsoil is replaced, the areas will be seeded and mulched. Mulch will be
certified weed free grass hay or straw. SCC will use the approved Seed Mix listed on
Table 14-8 "Permanent Seed Mixture- Upland Components".
Quantities
The 0.4 acres of disturbance will require the salvage of approximately 325 cubic yards of
topsoil which represents a 6" depth. Excavation of the shaft area and the north NSA will
entail the excavation of 1,100 cubic yards. The concrete to seal shaft will take 15 cubic
yards.
TR-69 14-36 12/16
