4) Mine slopes will typically be excavated to a vertical wall. Excess material will then be placed at the
toe of the slopes until the slope is graded to a 3:1 or greater. High walls will be knocked down by
balancing cut/fill to achieve a 3:1 slope. Slopes shall be compatible with surrounding topography
and suitable for rangeland livestock grazing.
5) Grading should be done when the site is dry to minimize erosion.
6) Seeding-The seed mix for the area is based on the reference plant communities for area soil types
and typical species seen in the area. Reclamation seeding will be accomplished with grass seed drill
when possible. When drilling is not possible, seed will be broadcast planted at 1-%times the
recommended drill seed rate.
a) If possible seed drilling will take place in late October to ensure early germination the following
spring. Alternatively seed drilling will be accomplished in the early spring to take advantage of
spring moisture and rising temperatures.
SEED MIX RECOMMENDATION
Common Name,N=Native %of Pound Total
(Seed Rate=40 seeds per seed (PLS)per Pounds
square foot) Genus, species mix acre PLS
Grasses,Forbs (PLS=Pure Live Seed)
Grama,Sideoats NJ Bouteloua curtipendula 20 1.82 41.86
Sand dro seed N Sporobolus cryptandrus 10 0.05 1.15
Bluestem,Little N Schizachyrium scoparium 20 1.34 30.82
wheat Gass,western N Pascopyrum smithii 20 3.20 73.60
Gal leta Grass(ca o sis) N Pleara his"amesii 30 0.37 8.51
Needle and Thread N Hesperostipa somata 10 1.09 25.07
Alkali Sacaton INI Sporobolus airoides 10 0.15 3.45
Seed rate=40 seeds/sf 1 100%
Shrubs(add shrub seed to grass/forb seed mix)
Fourwing Saltbush IN JAtriplex canescens 1.00 23.00
Winterfat IN lKrascheninnikovia Janata 0.02 0.46
Seed Rate Pounds PLS per acre), 9.04
Total lbs PLS 207.92
SEED PLANTING NOTES
Drill Type Grass Drill
Drill Depth in 1/4 to 1/2
Drill Spacing in 6 to 8
Rip seed bed in compacted soil areas.
