, F
South Platte Combined Replacement Plan Page 3 Of 19
March 1, 2017
for Lining Criteria for Gravel Pits in a letter dated May 25, 2016. The
construction of the slurry wall resulted in ground water mounding and
flooding of adjacent property. The operator has installed a gravity drain
to dewater the site on a continuous basis. A permanent drain is being
installed at the site, which has the potential to compromise the existing
and approved liner, and therefore a new 30 -day leak test will be required
upon completion of work on the permanent drain. For the purposes of
this SWSP, you have assumed that 15.0 acres of ground water will be
exposed in the pit for the duration of the approval period. Depletions
covered by this SWSP include water lost due to evaporation and dust
control.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 15.0
Active Dewatering: YES
Brighton Pit Status: Mining operations at the Brighton Pit are complete and
(South Platte reclamation is in progress. Depletions covered by this SWSP include
Mainstem) water lost due to evaporation and post -pumping dewatering depletions.
The south and central reservoirs are lined with a slurry wall (WDIDs
0203031 and 0203385) and have obtained SEO liner approval.
Reclamation work includes backfilling the remaining exposed areas, of
which 1 acre was backfilled in 2013.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 5.0 acres
Active Dewatering: No
Tucson South Pit Status: Mining operations have not started at Tucson South Pit, and are
(South Platte
not anticipated to occur during this plan period. This SWSP covers no
Mainstem)
depletions at this site, other than depletions associated with the 2 acre
pond transferred from the Tucson Pit.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 2.0 acres transferred from the Tucson
Pit
Active Dewatering: No
Wattenberg Pit
Status: Aggregate intends to continue actively mining the Wattenberg Pit
(South Platte
during 2017. Depletions covered by this SWSP include water lost due to
Mainstem)
evaporation, aggregate production, dust control, and dewatering.
Dewatering operations at the site are expected to remain continual and
constant.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 5.0 acres
Active Dewatering: YES
Platte Valley Pit
Status: Mining operations at the Platte Valley Pit are not anticipated to
(South Platte
occur in 2017, though reclamation activity consisting of backfilling
Mainstem)
portions of the site will continue in 2017. Depletions covered by this
SWSP include water lost due to evaporation, dust control, and concrete
batching. Water for concrete batching will come from Well Permit No.
13410 -F -R (WDID 0207073). Note that the water right for this well was on
the division engineer's 2010 Decennial Abandonment List, but the well
may still be used in accordance with its permit as long as all depletions
are treated as junior to all other vested water rights in accordance to this
SWSP and the well complies with the South Platte Well Measurement
Rules.
of -co
Office of the State Engineer
Y a' 51
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 fy
www. water.state.co.us * »
1876 f
