Dept. of Public Health & Environment Water Quality Control Division Permit Section 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South Denver, CO 80246-1530 Re: King Coal Mine (Permit No. C-1981-035) Permit Renewal Application No. 7 (RN -7) Dear Ms. Kieler: The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 20, 2017, an application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the King Coal Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. The applicant, GCC Energy, LLC, proposes to continue underground coal mining operations on land located approximately six miles southwest of Hesperus, Colorado. There are no proposed revisions to the approved mining and reclamation plan, nor is there any proposed surface disturbance outside of the currently approved disturbance area. The permit area is further described as follows: Portions of Sections 5, 6, 7 and 8, Township 34 North, Range 11 West; portions of Sections 28, 29, 31 and 32, Township 35 North, Range 11 West; and portions of Sections 35 and 36, Township 35 North, Range 12 West; New Mexico Principal Meridian.
