4. Monitoring of quantities of water discharged from the mine,
consumed in the mine, and imported for use in the mine.
Results of the quarterly ground water monitoring are submitted to the Division during
the month following the end of that quarter. Monitoring results and evaluation for
ground water and surface water are submitted in an annual hydrologic report (AHR).
The AHR will detail inflows, discharges and consumption of water within the mine
and shall be structured around the normal "water year" (October 1 through September
30). The annual report will also include baseline water quality data in addition to the
quarterly monitoring data to allow for comparison of baseline and "during mining"
conditions. The annual report for the previous water year will be submitted no later
than March 31 of each year.
SURFACE WATER
Surface water hydrology description is provided in Sections 4.2.2 and 4.2.6 of the
permit application. The surface water monitoring program is described in Section
4.2.7. Required analytical monitoring parameters are specified in Table 4.2-15, and
monitoring sites are depicted on Figure 4.2-2.
East Salt Creek and McClave Creek flow data are obtained by measuring rated culvert
depths. In 1996, the downstream sampling point on East Salt creek was relocated to
the bridge over East Salt Creek in the Munger Canyon Mine permit area, and flow
measurements are made at that location.
Surface water quantity and quality will be monitored upstream and downstream of the
disturbance in McClave Canyon and on East Salt Creek upstream and downstream of
the confluence of McClave Canyon and East Salt Creek in a manner approved by the
Division. The monitoring plan was submitted under 2.05.6(3)(b)(iv), and includes the
following, pursuant to 4.05.13(2).
SW -1 and SW -8 (East Salt Creekupstream and downstream): Quarterly Flow
and Quality.
SW -2 (McClave Creekbelow mine bench): Flow and quality, once during spring
snowmelt, and once during storm event runoff.
SW -5 (McClave Creek above mine bench): Water quality samples twice a year,
once during spring snowmen, and once during storm event runoff.
The water quality monitoring parameter list is outlined on Table 4.2-15. A
reduced parameter list (Short Suite For Temporary Cessation) is included in the
table. A notation on the table specifies that the short suite is to be implemented
only after mining has ceased for a period of at least 6 months.
Monitoring results and evaluation are submitted in an annual hydrologic report (AHR).
The AHR will assess observed impacts to the surface water system, and will be
structured around the normal "water year" (October 1 through September 30).
