PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 PREPARATION <br /> A. Topsoil shall be stripped from areas which are to be disturbed by construction and <br /> stockpiled. <br /> 1. Top soil shall be segregated from non-organic trench material and debris. <br /> 3.02 TRENCHING <br /> A. Excavate trenches by open cut methods, except where boring or tunneling is <br /> indicated in the Construction Documents, required by jurisdictional agencies or <br /> desired by CONTRACTOR and approved by the City to avoid removal of <br /> obstructions. <br /> B. Do not use mechanical equipment in locations where its operation would cause <br /> damage to trees, buildings, culverts, or other property, utilities, or structures above or <br /> below ground.In all such locations,hand excavating methods shall be used. <br /> C. Use mechanical equipment so designed and operated that the rough trench excavation <br /> bottom elevation can be controlled with uniform trench widths and vertical sidewalls <br /> from an elevation one foot above the top of the installed pipe to the bottom of the <br /> trench, and trench alignment sufficiently accurate to permit pipe to be aligned properly <br /> between the pipe and sidewalls of the trench. Do not undercut the trench sidewall to <br /> obtain clearance. <br /> 1. CONTRACTOR shall follow the most current regulations concerning <br /> excavations set forth by OSHA; 29 CFR Part 1926. <br /> D. Excavation In Rock <br /> 1. Over excavate a minimum of six inches below the bottom of the pipe. <br /> 2. Backfill with Granular Material. <br /> E. Preparation of Trench Bottom <br /> 1. Grade trench bottoms uniformly to provide clearance for each section of <br /> pipe. <br /> 2. Remove loose materials,water and foreign objects. <br /> 3. Provide firm subgrade suitable for application of bedding material. <br /> 4.
